Mary Shemo, M.D., D.F.A.P.A

Dr. Mary Shemo, wife and partner of Dr. John Shemo, is originally from College Park, Maryland and has been practicing medicine and therapy in Charlottesville, Virginia. Dr. Mary Shemo completed her residency in Psychiatry in 1979 and was on the teaching faculty of the University of Virginia until 1987. Dr. Shemo served as Director of the Mental Health Section of the Student Health Service at the University of Virginia. In 1987 she entered private practice in Charlottesville, treating adults and adolescents. She chaired the Clinical Committee at Charter Hospital from 1993 to 2000. She has been an active member of the Practice Reaserch Network for the APA since 1994.

From 1995 to 1998 Dr. May Shemo was one of the 12 members of the Steering Committee for the Development of the APA Practice Guidelines. She has been a member of the Psychiatric Society of Virginia since 1980 and has served on the Nominating Committee,  Program Chair for the Scientific Meeting, Member-at-Large on the PSV Board of Directors, and, currently, Treasurer of the PSV.
